The Netherlands and Norway have ordered restrictions on commercial poultry. The Netherlands has also told farmers to keep their birds indoors or behind chicken wire and protective netting.
Authorities in Ireland have banned bird shipments from Britain and revoked poultry-import licenses.
Russia and Japan have also stopped imports of live poultry and poultry meant from Britain, where about 25-hundred turkeys died of the deadly strain on a commercial farm. All of that facility's 159-thousand turkeys were ordered slaughtered.
