Furkan is a member of A Group of Companies working on different areas with different mentality and wide innovative horizon as if a single company. More than 25% of the personnel of the group are engineers of different disciplines. FURKAN has been working on Electric Discharge Machining (EDM) Machine Production and Industrial Automation systems since 1980.



In 1982 the first and its own design EDM Machine prototype was developed and the first EDM Machine was manufactured in 1984.



During the time, while increasing the capacity and the production capabilities of the company, EDM Machine has been improved. In 1989 the works for the CNC application to EDM Machines have been started and the first Turkish made CNC controlled EDM Machine has been introduced to the Market in 1993.



The company is based in Ankara/Turkey and still working on the production, sales and after sales services of EDM Machine which research and development has been made in its own organization. The company has a branch office in Istanbul meeting the needs of sales and after sales services within the Istanbul and nearby cities.



The established production facilities of the company cover all the stages of production, from machining, sheet metal working, electronics production and assembling of the final products.



Furkan has the capacity to realize all stages which start with research and development and systems from theory to design, from design to product and after sales services.



Furkan is now producing EDM Machines meeting the International Machine Tool Standards.

Lightining,stricking in unconceivably short distances.With each strike enormously high temperatures are created and tiny craters are left even in the hardest steel or tungsten carbide.This is an oversimplification but describes the principle of EDM exactly.It is a wearing down of metal using hundreds of thousand of sparks per second,which slowly erode the required form into piece of metal.



In 1943 a paper was published by the Russian physicists Lazarenko about 'the inversion oh the wearing effect as result of electrical discharge'.During studies about the wearing of switching contacts they developed a machining procedure where they could take advantage of the destructive effect of electrical charges.This was the beginning of EDM.The discharge generator,developed at the time,was used on EDM machines for a long period of time.Many innovations and technical improvements have contributed to make EDM a significant industrial manufacturing process.



There are 3 different procedures,namely EDM-drilling,wire cut and sink erosion.With this thermal erosion procedure for machining of anykind of conductive material,the material is point melted or vaporized by sparks arcing over the gap between the electrod and the workpiece.Depending on intensity,frequency, duration,length and polarity of the discharge,different erosion results arise.Even complicated geometrical forms can be produced. Where mechanical energy reaches its limits with materials difficult to discharge,EDM-drilling is used.
