Troubling findings in new study on autism
 

The study by the Centers for Disease Control finds that about one in 150 American children has autism.



The estimate is based on data from 14 states in the largest study ever done on the troubling disorder. However, the study doesn't answer whether autism is increasing.



The disorder is characterized by a range of behaviors including an inability to socialize and difficulty expressing needs. The cause isn't known.



Advocates say the new findings should fuel efforts for the government to spend more money on research and services.
