West Virginia Considers HPV Vaccine For Girls The HPV virus causes roughly 70% of all cases of cervical cancer. West Virginia has the second-highest cervical cancer mortality rate in the nation. Last summer, a federal panel approved the sale of a vaccine to prevent the sexually transmitted virus, and recommended it be given to girls before they become sexually active. The cost of the vaccine is $120 per dose, and the course of treatment requires three doses. The DC Council is also considering a bill mandating HPV vaccines for girls entering middle schools, a similar bill will be introduced soon in Maryland, and a plan is under consideration in Virginia. The Washington-based Family Research Council says the vaccine should simply be offered as an option for students, rather than a requirement. Kaynak: SağlıkHaber |
