Dr. Helen Bumpus a pediatrician in Bartlesville is averaging 7 cases of the flu a day.
And Dr. William Barnes a pediatrician in Claremore says he is seeing about 10 cases of the flu a day.
Melissa Bogel at Southcrest says doctors there are seeing a lot of cases, too.
So how can you tell if you have the flu? Doctors say sometimes it can be difficult. But one major way is by the severity of symptoms like headaches or a fever.
Doctors say there's still a way to hopefully help you from getting sick.
Being sick, really sick is sending more and more people to doctors offices. Doctors like pediatrician Yohaman Zomer are seeing a lot of the same things. They say plenty of patients are coming in with headaches, body aches, nausea, vomiting, and fever.
Doctors say also a lot of flu too. They say it came late and it came with a vengeance. But some who already got the flu shot may luck out and avoid getting sick.
The vaccine has between 80-90% effectiveness so if you do get the flu vaccine you do have a lot less chance of getting it. It's not 100% proof but it's a very good protection. And if you haven't gotten a flu shot yet, although you won't be protected right away, it may still not be too late to help.
"It takes about 2 weeks to get protection after you get the injectable vaccine... So it's still will be beneficial-- because we still think the flu will be here for a few more weeks."
Doctor Zomer says a good way to try and prevent getting the flu altogether is by washing your hands. He also says if you think you have flu symptoms you should go to the doctor and get it checked out.
